Best Buddies is an international organization that celebrates inclusion and builds one to one friendships with people with and without IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities). Have you ever seen students with disabilities by themselves or in their own groups not really interacting with other people? How would you feel if that was you? Best Buddies is a club that breaks that exclusion and invites everybody to just hang out and have fun! If this sounds interesting to you, please consider joining!
Meetings Sponsors: Ms. Jennifer email@example.com
When: Every other Thursdays
Where: Room S102
Hope to see you guys there!
Commitment: At the beginning of each school year we have a party to introduce club members to each other. We then use common interests to make buddy pairs with one student who has a disability (buddy) and one without (peer buddy). Buddy pairs are expected to meet up twice a month and make contact once a week (via phone, email, meeting in person, etc.). If you can’t meet this commitment, you can still join as an associative member. Associative members hang out with all the buddies without as much of a commitment.
SPREAD THE WORD TO END THE WORD
Best Buddies advocates for ending the derogative term “retarded.” Every March, we spread awareness with an activity-filled week here at school! Last year, we held an assembly and made a video to express our concerns.
