SBC President Candidates
Hi everyone! My name is Vishal, and I’m running to be your SBC President! As a Lowell representative to the Student Advisory Council and the PEEF Community Advisory Council, and as the Lowell 2022 Class President, I’ve developed the leadership we need to create meaningful change. As your SBC President, my first priority will be to help coordinate the reopening effort with our school leadership so that we can all voluntarily return to school in person. After we accomplish this, I will be committed to working with culture clubs and our administration to address inequities, working with peer resources and student support services to help those in need, and above all, to advocating for changes that will create a safer, healthier, and more enjoyable experience for all of us. I also want to help our current and incoming freshmen adapt to Lowell’s environment, support our sophomores with their heavier Junior course loads, and ensure our Juniors have support for Senior college applications. I’m excited to serve you, and I hope to create a Student Body Council that better represents every single one of us. Please join me, and vote for Vishal to be your SBC President! Thank you!
Hello Lowellites! My name is Joanna Lam and I’m running to be your next SBC President. After this unprecedented year, you probably want a sense of normalcy as we prepare to return to school. Through being LSA 2022 President for two years and spending this past year as an SBC Community Liaison, I’ve gained the experience needed to make your transition as smooth as possible.
We’re a Lowell divided: over admissions, renaming, you name it. You’ll need a leader with connections-- PTSA, School Site Council, SFUSD Student Advisory Council, Peer Resources, Wellness-- to bridge this gap.
I know I mentioned normalcy, but some things cannot go back to how they were. We need to protect survivors and continue education about sexual harassment and assault. The Padlet incident should not halt our anti-racism or equity work, and especially in our current climate, we need to be doing more.
I will adapt to change; I’ll make sure you have the rallies, dances, and events that make high school memorable. However, I’m also going to create change, because Lowell is at a turning point in its history, and it’s our job to head in the right direction. Vote Joanna Lam for SBC President!
