WHAT IS SPIRIT COMMITTEE?
Lowell High School, as we all know, is a competitive academic based school. We have approximately two thousand of the most competitive and outstanding students eager to impress and succeed. Not only do we make education a (friendly) competition, but spirit as well. Our spirit weeks are a battle for each class to go head to head and prove which class is truly the best.
Fall spirit week is the ultimate battlefield. Each grade will be given a theme, and is responsible for putting together a committee that will decorate each assigned hallway, put together a dance number, create a banner, and bring their A-game to the spirit rally.
The winning class of spirit week is to be determined by a number of anonymous judges, based on a score system. This includes scores based on the spirit hallways, banner, dance, and overall spirit rally game wins.
Spirit Committee is put together by each class board, with the exception of freshmen (to be discussed if you keep reading VVVV). The committee meets everyday after school for about 6 weeks. Hallway, dance, and banner managers are elected at the Spirit Committee info meeting. Their goal is to decorate the hallway with the best posters, choreograph the best dance, create the best banner and float, and pick those ready to compete in rally games.

HALLWAY COMMITTEE
If you are artsy and creative, working under the hallway section of Spirit Committee is the right place to be! The hallway committee takes care of covering the assigned hallway for each class with posters according to their theme.
Example:
Theme for the junior class: Underwater
Goal: Create as many posters as possible to decorate the 2nd floor hallway according to theme.
Ideas: The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo...
Execution plan: Over the course of six weeks, have artists or eager helpers sketch, draw, paint, color these posters.
So all in all, the main job here is to make beautiful posters...and don't worry, you don't have to be artsy or creative. You can be spirited or bored! EVERYONE is welcome to join spirit committee because the main goal here is to bring your class closer together and promote spirit. As long as you can hold a brush and color in the lines, you my friend, are exactly what we're looking for.

DANCE COMMITTEE
Time to get that body movin'! If you want to dance, choreograph, or just shake ya tailfeather, then I better see you joining the dance committee. Two choreographers are usually elected to choreograph the dance. Once again, they meet after school!! Learn a whole dance that goes according to your grade's spirit theme, and then get ready to perform it for the whole school at the spirit rally! The dance is a bit part of the overall spirit score, so it is very important to bust out those dance moves and wow the crowd!
BANNER
The banner is basically the class flag. The class's public relations officer can either elect a manager or have people help. Everyone is welcome to work on the banner! The banner must be finished before the day of the rally, and meet the certain size requirements. The day of the Fall Spirit Rally, each class will hang their banner up, and judges will also be scoring these.
SPIRIT LATE NIGHT
The Friday before spirit week is probably one of the most hectic days of the Lowell year. All the spirit committees from each grade work from the moment school lets out until about 10pm. All the posters must go up, which means last minute sketching, painting, drying, and taping. The dancers will be busy drilling their routine before the big spirit day...and everything must come together before the two thousand kids rush in on Monday morning to judge and drool in awe at the hallways. Food is usually provided for the committee members by the class boards.
HOW DO I JOIN SPIRIT COMMITTEE?
SIMPLY SHOW UP THE DAYS YOU ARE FREE! Spirit Committee needs as much help as possible because it is literally a big project that will be graded! Depending on how many times you show up, you get signed off for doing Spirit Committee work, and can be put down as an extra-curricular activity/club! Everyone can join, and you can take part in more than one activity! No need to pick between dance or hallway, do BOTH!
FRESHMEN SPIRIT COMMITTEE
Since freshmen will not yet have their own class board, the SBC Club Coordinator and SBC Election Commissioner will be in charge of the freshmen spirit committee. An info meeting will be held early in the year! Keep your eyes posted for more information freshies!
