LSA 2023 Treasurer Candidates
Hello fellow rising juniors, my name is Matthew Chan, and I will be running to be your LSA 2023 Treasurer. I’ve had two previous years on the 2023 Board in the same position, making me experienced with the workspace and in the work that the class treasurer is responsible for. Throughout my previous two years of work, I have worked alongside my board to host successful fundraisers, develop organized spreadsheets, and keep accurate tracking of our funds.
Whether the district decides to reopen schools for in person learning or continues online, I promise to prioritize LSA so that our finances will be the least of your worries. As we are approaching the end of our highschool journey, I’ll strive to make your highschool memories exciting, and bring the best events to you. If you wish to contact me, you can do so on Instagram @mattthewchan or on Discord @machan#1193.
Hey y’all! My name is Aliyah and I am running for your LSA 2023 Treasurer. Through my work as the BSU Treasurer, I managed the finances of our COVID giveback project where we purchased hygiene and pandemic necessities. I also oversaw our incoming donations and funds as well as expenses like our BSU merchandise. Aside from my role as BSU Treasurer, I have spoken out on incidents that took place within the Lowell Community and I’m currently planning your Junior Prom. As BSU Treasurer and Co-Vice President of your Junior Prom Committee, I’ve shown that I have the leadership ability we need to help change our school for the better.
If elected, I would use the skills I’ve gained to balance a budget, organize sales for our class events, and oversee ticket distribution. I’ll also make sure that serious topics such as racism and mental health are issues that are at the forefront because students' health and fair treatment for all students’ matters to me. As a start, Lowell BSU and I have written demands for change within Lowell and making sure that administration is held accountable. Super excited and I hope to see y’all next year at school!
As treasurer, I will make sure that our student council is spending money on the things that students actually want instead of wasting it on things that should not be prioritized. We should be budgeting our money in the most effective way possible. Besides just more dances, movie nights, etc. I have specific ideas that I know students are excited about. For example, I want to move our junior dances to the ballroom of a hotel instead of the courtyard. I’ve done the math, and we can accomplish this with a successful bake sale at school. Another common complaint is the cafeteria food. I want to sponsor better food in the cafeteria, such as the sale of spam musubi during junior lunchtime. I also have experience maintaining a successful budget. I have organized many mass fundraisers with candy, food, etc. that had to be kept under a strict budget. All of these fundraisers were big successes that met or passed their goals. If you want to see your class money handled in a way that benefits the students, vote William for treasurer.
