Best Buddies is a club that represents inclusion with people with and without IDD, or intellectual and developmental disabilities. We create one to one friendships based on people’s interests and self expressions, and celebrate this idea of no person being left behind.
Meetings Sponsors: Ms. Jennifer email@example.com
When: Every other Thursdays
Where: Room S102
Hope to see you guys there!
Commitment: At the beginning of each school year we have a party to introduce club members to each other. We then use common interests to make buddy pairs with one student who has a disability (buddy) and one without (peer buddy). Buddy pairs are expected to meet up twice a month and make contact once a week (via phone, email, meeting in person, etc.). If you can’t meet this commitment, you can still join as an associative member. Associative members hang out with all the buddies without as much of a commitment.
SPREAD THE WORD TO END THE WORD
Best Buddies advocates for ending the derogative term “retarded.” Every March, we spread awareness with an activity-filled week here at school! Last year, we held an assembly and made a video to express our concerns.
