2014 JUNIOR PROM: STARRY NIGHT
ON JR PROM: WORDS OF ADVICE
When we joined the committee, we spent the first solid 8 months mainly focused on fundraising. We got lucky our year because a member had a car, and the ability to drive to pick up foods for after school fundraising. We would recommend starting off with a focus on fundraising, because the more money you can raise the better. In the summer between sophomore and junior year we looked for and found a venue, which we found through lots of google research. Once the committee has a solid amount of money raised, the focus should shift to venue, theme and DJ. DJ is especially important because they do book up. Also, themes are important because you want the theme and the venue to compliment each other. Overall, we wanted to create a night that people would remember, something that our schoolmates would always remember.

Hi guys! Here is some advice to future Junior Prom members and a bit of insight as to what Junior Prom Committee really does for every one else. I wanted to be on Junior Prom Committee because I love to be creative and plan events and decorate and do all that fun stuff, so I decided to apply and give it a shot. For anyone out there wondering, this whole experience was totally worth it, so if you’re thinking about it, you should defiantly go out for it. Don’t get too scared, but there is more to planning a prom than you think; you have to fundraise (the more you raise the more you can use!), book a venue, come up with a theme, find and buy decorations (flowers, lights, centerpieces, the works), and a million other details that will make prom night magical. Being on this committee taught me a lot about teamwork and how everyone’s part, no matter how big or small, are really essential to pulling something like this off. My advice to all you future Junior Prom planners is to stay ahead of the game. Set goals and try to beat the deadlines you set for yourselves, it will make your life so much easier. Also, make sure to find your venue early in the game; you need a strong foundation to move forward from (determining your themes, decorations, etc.). Make sure to work as a team, and be able to rely on each other. And lastly, don’t forget to have fun on prom night! If you’re anything like me, seeing the final product of your hard work and all the fun your peers are having will make this all so worth it. Best of luck!

MEET THE MEMBERS

I joined Junior Prom because I thought it would be a fun was to get involved in school activities while putting my organization skills and love of party planning to work. I didn’t realize the amount of effort that’s involved with planning a prom, especially the fundraising aspect. Through the committee I learned many things. I learned how to better manage (seeing as I was elected president) and be a part of a group/committee. I also learned a lot of fundraising, and how to really make money for a cause quickly and efficiently. I also improved my skills of communication, because with a group of 7 people, you kind of have to! For me, the highlight of being on Junior Prom committee was during and right after the event. This sounds bad, but I really enjoyed being able to see all of the hard work that the committee worked on for a year and a half come together, and I especially loved seeing my classmates enjoy themselves at the dance. |
