If one were to enter Lowell High School on a Wednesday — at, say, 3:45 — and make their way up the stairs to room 211, one would find the Lowell Literary Magazine Staff in full attendance. They could be doing a variety of things — formatting the magazine, writing, or publicizing the magazine, to name a few — but whatever it is they happen to be doing will no doubt shock the viewer with its fabulousness.
It is, after all, the staff of The Junkyard.
What is “The Junkyard”, you ask. No, it is not the average empty lot that people leave their unwanted stuff at. It is instead a hidden treasure. A secret monument of student writing and art. A hallmark of beauty and words and angst. It is an entirely student-produced, student-run, and student-written literary magazine full of glorious writing and art, published annually.
Now, say the viewer has glimpsed this glory — and wants in.
The door opens.
It’s as simple as that. Show up on a Wednesday at 3:45 in room 211 and prepare to create the Lowell Literary Magazine. Prepare to create The Junkyard.
