Each year, SBC chooses a topic that we feel our student body should be more aware of (hence the name, Social Awareness Week ;)). This year, we decided to pick a topic that almost everybody can relate to: technology.
Do you find yourself checking your phone during meals? With friends? In class? Whenever you're bored?
Technology plays a huge part in our lives, and though it has incredible benefits, we can't seem to think that perhaps we are losing sight of what may be really important: social interaction.
Each day, we will tackle technology and its impacts through a different perspective.
MONDAY:
Introduction.
We will present to the student body all our findings of our Social Awareness Week survey, present statistics, and more!
TUESDAY:
Health.
Have you ever stopped to think about about the effects technology may have on your well-being? We will tackle myths about technology and its health impacts, as well as present some shocking data and statistics.
WEDNESDAY:
Environment.
What are the effects on our environment due to technological consumption?
BRING IN YOUR OLD ELECTRONICS FOR OUR E-WASTE PROJECT! We are going to be holding an e-waste recycling event on Wednesday, so you can properly dispose of those old electronics, and learn more about the environment.
THURSDAY:
Social.
Facebook. Instagram. Twitter. Doin' it for the Vine. We have all learned to rely on social media to help us communicate. But has it become an addiction? We will explore the social impacts of technology.
A special group of performers will also be visiting Lowell to perform "Disconnected".
FRIDAY:
The Future.
We wonder what the future holds for technology. So let's explore the endless possibilities together!
FILMS WE WILL BE SHOWING:
"Her", "Miss Representation", "Pixel Perfect" & more!
COME BY THE CATWALK TO BUY YOUR "TECH'S APPEAL" SHIRTS, TAKE THE PLEDGE TO GO UNPLUGGED, AND RAISE AWARENESS!!
